Invisalign is a revolutionary way to straighten teeth and correct bite issues. Today we are going to take a closer look at how does Invisalign work to give you a straighter, more hygienic and more confident smile.
What Is Invisalign®?
Invisalign aligners are worn over the front of your teeth, and they apply gentle pressure to push your teeth into a series of plotted positions. You are given a few different sets of aligners, with each set marking a new position for your teeth to move into every two weeks. Because of this, you do not need to visit your dentist as often as if you wore traditional metal braces and needed to have them adjusted. Instead, you simply swap into your next set of aligners.
What Are The Benefits Of Invisalign Treatment?
Straighten teeth discreetly
The aligners are made from a special type of plastic that is hardly noticeable to the people around you. This means you have a discreet way to straighten your teeth, without much disruption to your lifestyle.
Invisalign aligners are removable
Unlike traditional metal braces, which can’t come off until the end of your treatment plan, aligners can be removed for eating and drinking.
This is important, because if you do eat or drink while they are in your mouth you can stain, discolour and reshape the plastic, which makes them much more noticeable.
It is recommended that you remove your aligners every time you eat or drink but it is important that you clean your teeth and aligners thoroughly before putting them back in.
Traditional metal braces are known for being uncomfortable and taking a lot of getting used to. Invisalign treatment offers patients the opportunity to straighten teeth in a much more comfortable manner that is less disruptive to their day-to-day life.
Committing To Your Treatment Plan
While it is possible to remove the aligners for eating and drinking you are reminded that you shouldn’t take them out unnecessarily.
You must wear them for the minimum 22 hours a day if they are to be effective enough to help you achieve your treatment goals.
Furthermore, it’s also really important to note that you will probably be instructed to wear a retainer at night or for a few hours a day once you have reached the end of your Invisalign treatment.
This is an important last step to follow to ensure your teeth do not shift back into their previous positions.
Caring For Your Aligners
Remember to follow the special care instructions you are given because departing from them can cause damage to the special plastic the aligners are made from. Shininess, dirt, and discolouration, which can all result from improper care, can make your aligners more noticeable in your mouth and defeat the purpose of having them.
You should not smoke, chew gum or drink very hot beverages while wearing your aligners, as this can cause staining and misshapenness. Because of the degree of maturity required with aligners, they are best suited to older adolescents and young adults.
